A gaze into history

Manual Goldmann perimeter

Reference in perimetry until today

In 1945, Professor Hans Goldmann developed, together with Haag-Streit, the first manual angular controlled perimeter, which was subsequently named after him. To this day, the manual Goldmann perimeter remains the reference for kinetic perimetry. In fact, most of the basic definitions used by Professor Goldmann have become perimetry standards, such as the Goldmann size stimuli, and the Goldmann cupola.

First automated static perimeter

Pioneering work in device automation

In 1972, Franz Fankhauser and his colleagues developed
the principles and concepts of automated perimetry, which resulted in the design of the first automated static perimeter in 1974: the Octopus 201.

Over 75 years of experience

Expertise you can trust

As the inventor of both the first Goldmann perimeter and the first automated perimeter, the Haag-Streit Octopus 201 has pioneered many significant innovations. These include the G-pattern, the global indices MD and sLV, fast strategies, and outstanding software for visual field analysis. With decades of experience in the field, Haag-Streit’s Octopus perimeters are state-of the art devices that you can trust.

Satisfied customers since 1945

Quality and product life

Since 1945, we have sold more than 30,000 Octopus devices. Their quality standard, convenient operation, and long product life is repeatedly confirmed by eye care practitioners and patients worldwide.

Clinically proven

More than 500* studies available

Since 1974, Octopus perimeters have pioneered the way for many significant innovations in perimetry, collaborating with leading experts to advance visual field testing. These efforts have resulted in more than 500* studies on Octopus perimeters, which is testament to Octopus as a clinically proven solution for visual field testing.
